ARTIST PORTFOLIO WEBSITE DESIGN - RORY JACKSON

Artist portfolio website design built to showcase, protect, and sell fine art.

Rory Jackson is an oil painter working across two very different landscapes — the hills of Vermont and the seascapes of Ghana, and needed an artist portfolio website design that could carry both. His previous site, built on Wix, no longer matched the scale or ambition of his growing body of work.

I rebuilt the site from the ground up in Elementor Pro, starting with a single, undifferentiated gallery and reorganizing it into six distinct collections, Landscapes, Water, Aerial, Building, People, and Plein Air, so visitors could actually explore the range of his work instead of scrolling through everything at once. Alongside the galleries, I built a full fine art ecommerce website design, giving Rory a real storefront to sell original paintings and prints directly.

One real problem drove a specific technical decision: Rory had discovered people downloading and printing his images without permission. In response, I implemented artwork copyright protection across the site, right-click disabling and watermarking on every image, to protect his intellectual property while still letting the work be seen and appreciated.

Beyond the gallery and store, the rebuild included an entirely new resume page mapping out his studies, exhibitions, and permanent installations, a dedicated page for reviews and publications about his work, and an About page featuring embedded video. Rory is also the founder of L'école Trinity Yard, and founded its holistic and ecological programs, work his art sales help sustain when outside funding falls short. Questions sur ce projet

How do you protect an artist's work from being copied online?

A combination of right-click disabling and visible watermarking across every image, enough friction to stop casual downloading and printing, without getting in the way of people actually browsing and enjoying the gallery.

By dividing it into clear, distinct collections rather than one long gallery, Rory Jackson’s site groups over sixty images into six categories like Landscapes and Aerial, so visitors can explore by style instead of scrolling past everything at once.

Yes, this project included a full ecommerce build, giving Rory a real storefront for both original paintings and prints, rather than relying on a third-party marketplace.
